Immunity And All That Jazz

October 19, 2017

It's that time of year where the weather is changing and with this change it brings the dreaded cold.  To me it seems like EVERYBODY I know is getting sick!  No matter where I turn there's someone coughing, sneezing, or just feeling crappy.  Including myself!

As a wife, I want to make sure that myself and my husband are able to be happy and healthy.  As a business owner, I need to keep my immune system in tip top shape so I can stay focused and committed to reaching my goals without sickness getting in the way.  Nobody has time to be sick because there are soooo many other things we would rather be doing than stuck at home, on the couch, with used tissues littered around us.

This is why I turn to essential oils.  I want to preface this by saying that it is not about replacing traditional modern medicine.  It is about respecting the value of having emergency and medical care when it is necessary, but also having an alternative to turn to before that is needed.   Many hospitals, research centres, and practitioners are starting to truly understand and value just how incredible essential oils can be.  Like I said in my previous post, there is so much research coming forth on essential oils than ever before.  The only problem is, are we going to start listening?  {{You can find out more at Aromatic Science.}}  Ultimately, essential oils aren't healing our bodies, our bodies are healing themselves, but with the SUPPORT of essential oils.

My top immunity boosting oils:

OnGuard

This is doTERRA's protective blend, and for good reason!  This is my number one go to oil for keeping my immunity up and fending off sickness.  Packed in this little brown bottle is Wild Orange, Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus and Rosemary.

I recommend using this oil aromatically, topically, and internally to really benefit from its power.  Adding 2-3 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser (my fav is the Petal diffuser that doTERRA sells) so pathogens in the air are eliminated.  This is especially beneficial if one person in the home is sick and you want to prevent the others from also getting sick.

Diluting OG in some coconut oil and applying it along the spine and the bottom of your feet is also a great option.  Essential oils are able to reach the blood stream within 2 minutes after topical application and affect every cell in the body after 20 minutes!  How awesome is that?!

Because of the purity of doTERRA oils, they are safe to be ingested.  I particularly like gargling OnGuard when I have a sore throat.  I also use the OnGuard natural toothpaste everyday to get my daily dose of immune support.

Something I learned at convention this year is that OnGuard is so powerful that it actually has the ability to stop virus infected cells in the body from replicating.  This means that when you are sick, you aren't sick for as long as you would be without OG!

Oregano

Oregano is such a powerful immune supporter and is widely known.  This oil is considered a hot oil in that you should always dilute it when applying topically (1 drop of EO to 1 tbsp of carrier oil).   would advise you to not apply it topically to anywhere but the bottoms of your feet because of its strength.

You can also diffuse this oil along with any other immunity oils to get added benefit.  I will warn you, it may smell like you're in the middle of spaghetti sauce with this baby pumping!  Speaking of spaghetti, you can use this oil to cook with as a replacement to fresh or dry herbs.  Just one drop and you'll have a ton of flavour.

I have been known to take Oregano oil internally as well to fend off a cold.  Usually what I do it fill up a shot glass with juice and add 1 drop of Oregano to the top.  I think take a deep breath and shoot it back quickly.  Like I said, it is a hot oil, so get ready for a slight I burning sensation.  Don't worry, it goes away very quickly.  Best to have some extra juice or water on hand.

Easy Air

This is for sure my second favourite oil blend to use for when I'm sick.  Just like the name suggests, it allows for clear breathing by supporting the respiratory system, which includes the lungs and the sinuses.  It is a blend of Laurel, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Lemon, Cardamom, Ravintsara and Ravensara.

Diffusing 2 drops of Easy Air with 2 drops of OnGuard and you have yourself a one-two punch with regards to sickness.  EA with some lavender provides awesome sleep support and to reduce snoring.

Rubbing this blend on the chest, back, and bottom of the feet help if you are super congested.  You can also add a drop or two to a mug of hot water and breathe it in with your eyes closed.  Have those tissues close by because that nose is going to run like a facet!

Lemon

Lemon is such a versatile oil.  Around this time of year, I use to to help sooth a scratchy and irritated throat by adding a drop to a teaspoon of raw honey.  You can eat it straight off the spoon or add the oil-honey concoction to your favourite herbal tea.

Lemon also has amazing respiratory support properties so it is a great one to diffuse along with lavender and peppermint for more seasonal afflictions (aka the dreaded hay-fever).   Relief comes within seconds and lasts all day!

Tea Tree

Tea tree oil is another one of those well know oils.  It is literally anti-everything!  Anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiseptic, etc., so that means it is amazing for naturally cleaning the house!  To make simply add one cup of water, one cup of white vinegar, and 4-5 drops of Tea Tree oil to a 16oz spray bottle and BOOM you have your cleaner!

To help with plugged ears, dilute it and apply behind the ear and down towards the neck.  NEVER put essential oils in your ears, eyes, or nose!  This is a no no because of how delicate the membranes are in those areas.

Peppermint

This is another great oil to help with lung support and can open and clear sinuses in seconds.  For real, I've used it multiple times!  What I do is put a drop in my palms, rub them together, cup the over my mouth and nose, and breathe in.  So very simple!

It is a great way to calm the stomach and can even be used to cool down a feverish body.  Dilute a drop or two and rub across the back of the neck and on the temples for some relief.

All of these essential oils and blends are in some of our most popular starter kits (you can find them here).  The benefit to starting out with a kit is the massive amount of savings you receive by bundling the oils together.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and if you want to get yourself prepared for anything that life throws at you!

To your happiness and health,

Kelly :)
